Snack run turns into $31K Racetrax win
Baltimore, MD — A quick stop for snacks on the way home turned into a five-figure payday after a Baltimore man placed a long-odds bet that hit in exact order.
Edwin Sosa, an auto body technician, stopped at Xpress Mart on Reisterstown Road in Pikesville on March 21 and decided to play Racetrax while picking up food and drinks. He selected a trifecta bet, choosing horses numbered 12, 10, and 11 to finish in that exact sequence.
The numbers came in exactly as played, earning him a $31,233 prize.
Sosa said he watched the race unfold in disbelief and left the store without checking the ticket, opting instead to confirm the result later at home using the Maryland Lottery app.
After verifying the win, he shared the news with family members before claiming the prize at lottery headquarters on April 8.
Sosa said he plans to use part of the winnings to purchase a car and save the remainder.
The winning ticket was sold at Xpress Mart, located at 200 Reisterstown Road in Pikesville. The retailer will receive a $312.33 bonus for selling the ticket.
