Rosedale woman becomes millionaire with winning Holiday Raffle ticket drawn on her late mother’s birthday
ROSEDALE, MD — A Rosedale woman began the year with a $1 million win after her Maryland Lottery Holiday Raffle ticket matched the grand prize number drawn on a date that held deep personal meaning — her late mother’s birthday.
Karen L., who claimed the top prize on Monday at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, purchased the $20 raffle ticket during the promotional run that ended Jan. 1. Though the winning numbers were drawn on Jan. 2, she waited three days before scanning her ticket with the Maryland Lottery app and received the message directing her to Lottery offices — a sign of a major win.
She initially thought she had won one of the $100,000 second-tier prizes but later learned her ticket, numbered 136188, was the one and only top prize winner in the statewide raffle. The confirmation came after she took the ticket to a local store where it was officially scanned and revealed to be worth $1 million.
Karen purchased her ticket at the 7-Eleven located at 1801 Reisterstown Road in Pikesville. She is a regular Maryland Lottery player, typically buying Powerball, Mega Millions, and scratch-offs, but had never tried a raffle before this year.

The Holiday Raffle ran from Nov. 3 through Jan. 1 and featured 237,206 sequentially numbered tickets sold statewide at $20 each. The Jan. 2 drawing awarded one $1 million prize, ten $100,000 prizes, and 10,000 lower-tier cash prizes between $50 and $500.
Winners have 182 days from the drawing to claim prizes. All winning numbers can be found on the Maryland Lottery website, which also features a search tool to check individual ticket numbers.
Karen stated she plans to use her winnings for a variety of practical needs, including purchasing a car, home improvements, and boosting her savings.
