Seaside Heights enacts teen curfew in wake of rowdy crowds

Seaside Heights, New Jersey – Following a tumultuous Memorial Day weekend characterized by instances of unruly behavior involving teenagers, Seaside Heights officials have taken action by implementing restrictions aimed at minors.

These measures include beach closures at 8 p.m. and the institution of a curfew for individuals under 18 years old.

The borough council passed a resolution on Wednesday, which will take immediate effect. The resolution enforces a curfew for minors between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. in any public place, unless accompanied by their parent or guardian, or if they are traveling to or from a business or job

Mayor Anthony Vaz expressed concern over the recent incidents involving disruptive behavior from teenagers, stating, “We can’t have this happen.”

The implementation of these restrictions aims to address the issue and maintain a safe and orderly environment within Seaside Heights..

Additionally, the resolution mandates the closure of ocean and bay beaches in Seaside Heights between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., except during special events, for surfers, and for fishermen.

In a further step towards making these rules permanent, an ordinance was introduced on Wednesday. The borough officials have announced that the ordinance will be considered for adoption at the upcoming borough council meeting scheduled for July 19.

In 2020, Toms River enacted a teen curfew in the Ortley Beach section of the town just north of Seaside Heights.
