A Sicklerville man who was himself wounded by gunfire has been charged with attempting to kill another man during a shooting that unfolded across multiple crime scenes in Winslow Township, authorities said.
A Camden County man is facing attempted murder charges after investigators determined he shot an acquaintance multiple times during a violent encounter that left both men suffering from gunshot wounds.
Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Winslow Township Police Chief Donald Lemons announced that Jermine Jones, 33, of Sicklerville, has been charged with first-degree attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and aggravated assault.
Victim airlifted to trauma center
The shooting occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. Friday on the 500 block of Chews Landing Road in Sicklerville.
Officers responding to reports of gunfire found a 33-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
“The victim, who was also from Sicklerville and acquainted with Jones, was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital in critical condition,” authorities said.
Investigators said the victim and Jones knew each other prior to the shooting.
Detectives discovered multiple crime scenes
As detectives processed the scene, they determined the investigation involved more than one shooting location.
“Detectives arrived and discovered two crime scenes, indicating there had been more than one person shot,” prosecutors said.
A short time later, investigators learned that Jones had been transported to a hospital in Philadelphia after suffering a gunshot wound.
Detectives subsequently recovered a .45-caliber handgun from the location where Jones was shot.
Suspect arrested at Philadelphia hospital
Following the investigation, detectives concluded that Jones was responsible for shooting the victim.
“During the investigation, detectives determined Jones was the individual responsible for shooting the victim,” the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office said.
Authorities noted that the circumstances surrounding how Jones was shot remain under investigation.
Jones was taken into custody at the Philadelphia hospital where he was receiving treatment. He remains in Pennsylvania pending extradition to New Jersey.
