Virginia Powerball players hit big as jackpot climbs toward $950 million
Richmond, VA — Powerball fever is heating up in Virginia after more than 58,000 winning tickets were sold across the state in Wednesday night’s drawing, including a $2 million winner in Spotsylvania and a $1 million winner in Carrollton.
While no one matched all six numbers nationwide to claim the jackpot, Virginia Lottery officials confirmed several major prize winners ahead of Saturday’s estimated $950 million drawing.
The $2 million winning ticket was purchased at Weis Markets located at 9801 Courthouse Road in Spotsylvania. The $1 million ticket was sold at the 7-Eleven on 13511 Carrollton Boulevard in Carrollton.
Three additional tickets in Virginia matched four of the five white balls plus the Powerball, earning $50,000 each. Those tickets were bought at:
- Royal Farms, 1221 Warrenton Road, Fredericksburg
- Springfield Shell, 5533 Backlick Road, Springfield
- Online via the Virginia Lottery app by a player from Alexandria
The winning numbers for Wednesday’s draw were 9, 12, 22, 41, 61 and Powerball number 25.
As anticipation grows for Saturday night’s drawing, the jackpot now stands at an estimated $950 million. Powerball tickets are available at more than 5,300 Virginia Lottery retailers or can be purchased online using the Virginia Lottery app. Drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m.
According to lottery officials, the odds of hitting the jackpot remain 1 in 292,201,338, while the odds of winning any prize are approximately 1 in 25. Players must be at least 18 years old.
Virginia Lottery proceeds support public education in the state. In Fiscal Year 2025, the Lottery raised over $901 million for K-12 education, contributing about 10 percent to Virginia’s overall public school funding.
