A 17-year-old suspect was arrested after officers tracked him down following the reported robbery of a woman on Georgia Avenue
WASHINGTON, DC — A woman walking along a busy stretch of Northwest Washington was left without her property after an alleged robbery Sunday evening, but the suspect’s attempt to escape was short-lived as officers quickly launched a search that led to an arrest.
The incident unfolded at approximately 7:28 p.m. Sunday in the 2500 block of Georgia Avenue NW, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Investigators said a suspect approached an adult female victim and forcibly took her property before fleeing the area on foot.
The victim was not injured during the encounter, police said.
Officers assigned to the Third District responded to the scene and immediately began searching for the suspect. A lookout was broadcast to units in the area as detectives worked to identify and locate the individual believed to be involved.
The investigation led detectives to a suspect, who was taken into custody without incident.
Police identified the suspect as a 17-year-old male from Southeast Washington.
The juvenile was charged with robbery involving force and violence, according to MPD. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance identified as THC wax.
Officials did not release additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the robbery or whether the victim’s property was recovered.
The case remains under investigation.
