Tired of Lakewood Smelling Bad on Garbage Day? Mayor Says You Can Do Something About it

LAKEWOOD, NJ – Residents in Lakewood asked Mayor Ray Coles about the stench of liquid garbage that drips from some of the town’s garbage trucks, especially on hot summer days when people are outside and about. One resident in Chateau Park said the terrible smell is a quality of life problem for residents.

In a response to TLS, Coles said the town’s garbage trucks are not fully watertight. Coles said occasionally seals can go bad and that if a truck is leaking, you can notify the Department of Public Works to have the truck inspected.

Coles said the water in the truck comes mostly from rainwater in trash cans and dumpsters and residents should make sure their cans are covered at all times.
