TRENTON, N.J. – The NJEA last week released a commercial calling frustrated parents of children in the public school system extremists. That video went viral after parents statewide became upset over the divisive messaging from the state’s largest teachers union.
This week, the New Jersey Republicans released a parody of that video, claiming the NJEA cares more about politics and controlling children than they do about educating them.
The union quickly filed copyright claims under the Digital Millenium Copyright Act, having the Republican Party’s video removed from many video streaming services. This week, the NJEA lawyers have been working overtime to censor the Republican-made video and to have it removed from the internet.
The Assembly Republican Office has made its parody video of the New Jersey Education Association’s nationally-criticized TV commercial that accuses parents of being extremists available on its website. A higher resolution version can be embedded from Vimeo.
The NJEA’s attempts to silence opposition to its radical new educational agenda in New Jersey have increased in recent months, culminating with the attempted takedown of a parody of their divisive and politically motivated attack against parents of New Jersey school children.
Assembly Republican Leader John DiMaio commented on the New Jersey Education Association having YouTube remove the Assembly Republican Office’s parody video of the union’s nationally-criticized TV commercial that accuses parents of being extremists.
“The NJEA’s action only drives home the Republicans’ point that they will stop at nothing to censor differing opinions, whether it is parents at board meetings or political speech in a video,” John DiMaio (R-Warren) said. “Instead of being willing to have a conversation, they would rather completely shut down people who are concerned or disagree. This is why parents are so irate. The NJEA pushes controversial policies and ideology on our children and when there is push back, they bring out the censorship police.”
