BALTIMORE, Md. — A 21-year-old man was shot in the back Thursday evening in South Baltimore, prompting a shooting investigation by local detectives.

The incident occurred at approximately 6:50 p.m. in the 4300 block of 5th Street. Responding Southern District officers located the wounded victim and called for medical assistance. He was transported to a nearby hospital and listed in stable condition.

Southern District Shooting detectives were called to the scene and have since taken over the investigation. No suspects have been identified, and no arrests have been made as of Friday.

Authorities have not released any information on a possible motive or whether the shooting was targeted.

The area was temporarily cordoned off as investigators collected evidence and spoke with nearby residents.
