SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NJ — Newly discovered footage from 1985 reveals a nostalgic portrait of Seaside Heights before it became nationally known for reality TV, crowded summers, and boardwalk chaos. Released by Greenrose Media, the collection includes a vintage commercial and over 90 minutes of raw, unedited scenes capturing the Jersey Shore in its pre-MTV heyday.

The footage, digitized and edited by Joe Verderosa from tapes located by Peter Smith, showcases a quieter, more family-oriented Seaside Heights. Among the highlights: panoramic shots of Rainbow Rapids water slide, the iconic Maruca’s Pizza counter, and the now-closed Razzles nightclub.

The material includes views of vintage arcade cabinets like Pac-Man, as well as glimpses of long-gone boardwalk landmarks including Dotty’s, Sonny’s & Rickey’s, the Sun-N-Fun signs, The Berkeley Sweet Shop, and the historic Carousel. Stands and rides on Casino Pier also feature prominently, along with scenic footage from the Barnegat Bay, showing locals crabbing and fishing.

Cultural time capsule for Ocean County and beyond

Though the original producer of the commercial remains unknown, the preservation and release of the footage has resonated with longtime residents and visitors who recall a slower, simpler era of Seaside Heights.

Captured before the arrival of cable television fame and shifting boardwalk crowds, the video encapsulates a visual archive of mid-1980s shore culture — complete with family-run food stands, classic amusement rides, and beachgoers enjoying the sand under less crowded skies.

The footage has been made publicly available through Greenrose.tv and has been drawing attention for its historical and cultural value to Ocean County and the broader New Jersey Shore community.
