COLUMBUS, OH – The Columbus Police Department has not given up the search for the killer of Damiere Thornton who was shot in a backyard back in February.

According to a police report at the time, on Wednesday, February 23, at approximately 10:52 p.m., Columbus Police officers were dispatched to the area of 315 Whitethorne Avenue from a Shotspotter alert of 11 rounds fired from that location.

“Officers arrived on scene and found Damiere Thornton in the backyard of the address suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Columbus Fire Department arrived on scene and pronounced Mr. Thornton deceased at 11:08 p.m,” CPD said in a statement. “Residents inside of 315 Whitethorne Avenue notified officers that Mr. Thornton had been out driving around with a male by the name of Gucci. They saw a black sedan leave at a high rate of speed, after they heard the gunshots.”

Gucci would be later identified through the investigation as Josiah Herring. Numerous attempts have been made to contact Mr. Herring and have him come in for a formal interview, but he has not responded.
