FIRE ISLAND, NY – Officers from the Aviation Section along with a Flight Paramedic from Stony Brook University Hospital recently conducted training for Fire and EMS personnel on Fire Island.

Training conducted focused on landing zone safety, water rescue capabilities, medevac operations, and aircraft response, rescue, and firefighting.

The Aviation Section provides a vital lifeline to the tens of thousands of people who visit the barrier Beach communities each summer, landing at ballfields and specially constructed wood helipads to transport sick and critically injured people to mainland hospitals.

In addition to Medevac operations, SCPD helicopters also conduct maritime search and rescue missions in hundreds of square miles of water that surround Suffolk County.
