Couple Followed Tow Truck and Tried to Take Their Repossessed Vehicle Back at Gunpoint

NEWARK, NJ – A Newark couple tried to take their repossessed vehicle back from a tow truck driver at gunpoint.

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé requests the public’s help in locating the below-pictured vehicle in connection with an attempted robbery that occurred on Friday, September 16, 2022.

The suspect vehicle, occupied by two individuals, followed a tow truck to a location on Whitney Street and attempted to take a repossessed vehicle at gunpoint. A light-skinned female and a male were inside the suspect vehicle, which fled the scene after the failed robbery attempt.

Detectives investigating this incident seek the public’s help in locating this vehicle, a blue 2021 Jeep Compass with New Jersey registration C74NER.

Director Fragé urges anyone with information about the location of this vehicle to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
