Tow truck driver killed while assisting disabled vehicle on Long Island Expressway

NEW YORK, NY – A tow truck driver responding to a disabled vehicle on the Long Island Expressway in Queens was killed overnight when he was struck by a passing car.

The 47-year-old tow truck operator was standing outside of his vehicle when he and the driver of the disabled vehicle were both struck by a passing car.

The tow truck operator was pronounced dead and the driver of the disabled car was rushed to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police did not say whether or not the incident was a hit-and-run.
