Child luring suspect sought in Newark

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé requests the public’s help with identifying the below-pictured suspect, who was captured on surveillance video attempting to lure an 8-year-old child away from a gas station convenience store on December 13, 2022.

NEWARK, NJ – The Newark Police Department is asking the public to help identify an alleged child luring suspect stemming from an incident that took place at a gas station convenience store last week.

Fritz G. Fragé, the Director of Newark Public Safety, requests the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect seen in the surveillance video below attempting to lure an 8-year-old child from a convenience store at a gas station last Tuesday.

The incident occurred at the Delta Gas Station located on Clinton Avenue at approximately 4 p.m. Police responded to the incident.

A child, a passenger in a transportation van, went into the convenience store at the gas station for a snack while the driver was filling up the tank. An unknown female approached the girl and inquired about her age and her parents’ location.

Upon leaving the mini-mart, the woman grabbed the girl by the hand and escorted her out, but the child was able to escape and escape into a transportation vehicle after breaking free from the woman’s grasp. After boarding the van, the woman argued with the driver, who drove north on Fabyan Place and west on Clinton Avenue, with the woman inside. The driver stopped the vehicle at South 19th Street and Clinton Avenue and had the woman removed from the van by a passerby.
