Newark police seeking suspect in assault and robbery

NEWARK, NJ – Police in Newark are investigating a February 6 assault and robbery in the area of Lafayette Street. On Friday, police released photos of the suspect wanted for the incident and are now asking the public to assist in identifying the individual.

The Director of Public Safety for the City of Newark, Fritz G. Fragé, is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the male suspect pictured below who was involved in an armed robbery that occurred on February 6.

A male victim was approached at gunpoint by the suspect and a male accomplice after exiting a vehicle in the 400 block of Lafayette Street.

The suspect struck the victim before fleeing in the suspect vehicle, reported stolen on February 5, 2023 and has since been recovered. The pictured suspect is described as a Black male with a thin build, 5’8″ tall, and wearing a black Adidas sweatsuit with a hooded sweatshirt. According to the description of the second suspect, who is not shown, he is also black, has a thin build, wears dark colored clothing, and wears white Jordan sneakers.

Director Fragé urges anyone with information about the identity of either suspect to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
