WICOMICO COUNTY, MD – A 15-year-old student was arrested and charged after being caught bringing a replica-style bb gun to Wicomico High School on Friday.

According to a report by the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, at around 1 pm, the Salisbury Police Department was contacted by a witness who saw a male putting a handgun into his backpack and heading toward Wicomico High School.

This call prompted officers to contact the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Deputies and school staff.

After reviewing the surveillance footage, they identified the suspect as a 15-year-old student from the high school. He was located and found to be carrying a replica of a real-looking handgun in his bag – it turned out to be a BB gun, according to police.

As the subject was a juvenile, a juvenile referral was completed, and they were released to their guardian pending disposition by the Department of Juvenile Services.

Together with the Salisbury Police Department and the Wicomico County Board of Education, the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office resolved the situation quickly and safely.
