Two dead after gunmen shoot up bodega in Newark

NEWARK, NJ – Police in Newark are investigating a double shooting that occurred Saturday night in the city’s Central Ward. According to initial reports by the Newark Police Department, the shooting occurred at around 6 pm on Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Two people were reportedly shot and killed. At this time, no further details have been released by the police.

Witnesses say two armed men rushed into the El Eden grocery store on MLK Boulevard and began firing their guns. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. A second was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

At this time, no arrests have been made and police have not identified any suspects. The Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating.

The men are thought to have fled the scene in a black Mercedes.
