Police in Newark continue investigation of weekend double shooting

NEWARK, NJ – Families of the victims and the Newark Police Department are still trying to make sense of a double shooting at a bodega Saturday night.

Police are continuing to investigate the deadly shooting that left two dead. Little is known about the attack, but police are looking for a black Mercedes used as a getaway vehicle.

The two shot were victims of a double shooting that occurred Saturday night in the city’s Central Ward. According to initial reports by the Newark Police Department, the shooting happened at around 6 pm on Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Witnesses say two armed men rushed into the El Eden grocery store on MLK Boulevard and began firing their guns. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. A second was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

At this time, no arrests have been made and police have not identified any suspects. The Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating.

The men are thought to have fled the scene in a black Mercedes.
