Murder Investigation Launched After 55-Year-Old Attacked Outside Dyker Heights Deli Dies

NEW YORK, NY – A Brooklyn man who was attacked outside a deli in the Dyker Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn in March has died. Police are now investigating the attack as a homicide. At this time, no arrests have been made and no suspects have been identified.

On Wednesday, March 29, 55-year-old John Sarquiz was attacked outside the Dean Mini Market at 7224 13th Avenue at around 7:50 pm.

Police responding to a 911 call regarding the attack found Sarquiz unconscious and unresponsive. He was taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn where he was treated for severe head trauma.

He passed away Monday morning. The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death. The investigation remains ongoing.
