One killed in fatal crash in Harberson

HARBESON, DE – A fatal single-vehicle crash occurred on Lewes-Georgetown Highway (Route 9) near Harbeson Road (Route 5) on Saturday, around 9:20 PM. The driver, a 47-year-old man from Milton, DE, was operating a 2007 GMC Yukon at high speed when he lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle crossed the center line of the road, entered the westbound lane, and continued eastbound through the front yards of several residences before striking a utility pole. The impact caused the vehicle to catch fire and become partially engulfed in flames. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and his identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Lewes-Georgetown Highway was closed for approximately 2.5 hours while authorities investigated the crash and cleared the roadway. The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit is leading the investigation and is seeking any witnesses to the collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact Corporal/1 M.
