Police say death of 16-month-old on Staten Island a homicide

NEW YORK CITY – The NYPD is actively investigating a homicide that occurred on February 20, 2023, within the confines of the 120 Precinct. Police responded to a 911 call of an aided, unconscious child inside of 53 Hamilton Avenue in February.

Upon arrival, officers observed a 16-month-old male, unconscious and unresponsive, on a bed in a bedroom.

Emergency Medical Services responded to the location and transported the aided male to Richmond University Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

There were no obvious signs of trauma observed. The Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be a cocaine and fentanyl overdose.

No arrests have been made at this time.
