PEQUEA TOWNSHIP, PA – On Tuesday, a severe collision occurred on Long Lane in Pequea Township, leading to multiple arrests. The incident began as a hit-and-run, with a vehicle leaving noticeable sideswipe damage on an eastbound vehicle. The driver of the sideswiped vehicle was unharmed and reported that the offending vehicle continued westbound.

The local authorities found a severe head-on collision approximately 1000 feet further west, involving the same offending vehicle.

The occupants of the vehicle, a 60-year-old male and a 25-year-old female, both from York, PA, were at the scene and suffered various injuries. The suspects who had been in the offending vehicle had fled the scene on foot. However, an observant citizen reported suspicious activity approximately an hour later, leading to the suspects’ arrest.

The driver, identified as 21-year-old Franknness A. Martinez Tavarez from Corona, New York, was found to be driving without a valid license. He now faces eleven charges, including Aggravated Assault by Vehicle and Accidents Involving Death or Injury While Not Properly Licensed.

Martinez Tavarez failed to post $100,000 bail and was remanded to prison. Also apprehended was passenger Kervin Omar Cortez Canales, 19, from New Brittan, Connecticut, who was charged with Possession of Marijuana and subsequently released. The third passenger, a 19-year-old female from East Elmhurst, New York, was not charged and was released.

The Pequea Township Police Department received assistance from multiple agencies, and the investigation caused Long Lane to be closed for approximately one hour.
