Gunman indicted for shooting near Queens Yeshiva

QUEENS, NY – Jeffrey Morel was arraigned on Thursday on charges relating to a shooting in Far Rockaway that endangered students and teachers at a nearby yeshiva, as well as damaging parked cars.

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz indicated that it was fortunate the incident did not result in any injuries.

Morel, a resident of Brookhaven Avenue in Far Rockaway, faces charges including attempted murder in the second degree, attempted assault in the first degree, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, and reckless endangerment in the first degree, among others. He is scheduled to return to court on May 15.

If convicted, he could face up to 25 years in prison.

The incident, which occurred on May 1, involved Morel and another man exchanging gunfire near the Talmud Torah Siach Yitzchok yeshiva. Video surveillance footage and bullet fragments recovered at the scene provide evidence of the event.
