Burlington Township Man Sentenced for Deadly Arson Incident

BURLINGTON COUNTY, NJ – Newlin Evans IV, a 23-year-old Burlington Township resident, was sentenced on Wednesday to 22 years in state prison for a fatal fire he started at a Pemberton Borough apartment complex last year.

According to Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw, the sentence was handed down in Superior Court in Mount Holly by the Hon. Terrence R. Cook, P.J.Cr., in line with a plea agreement between the defendant and the Prosecutor’s Office.

Evans must serve 85 percent of the sentence before becoming eligible for parole. The arson incident occurred in the early morning hours of April 20, 2022, at the Tara Hall Apartment Complex, resulting in the death of 22-year-old Camryn Powell.
