Syracuse Police Successfully Resolve Armed Standoff

by Adam Devine

SYRACUSE, NY – Late on Sunday, Syracuse Police Officers received a report of a man threatening self-harm with a knife at Crouse Hospital’s Emergency Room. Upon arrival, they confirmed the man was indeed in possession of a large folding knife, which he held against his head and throat while shouting threats of self-harm.

Officer J. Decker and other on-scene officers engaged the individual, trying to establish a connection and convince him to put down the knife.

After an hour-long encounter, the man relinquished the knife and complied with the officers’ instructions, allowing them to take him into custody without incident.

The man was provided with the necessary mental health treatment following the incident. The situation resulted in no harm to hospital staff or patients, and Crouse Hospital remains operational with no ongoing threat.
