63-Year-Old Shot Dead in Harlem, Homeless Suspect in Custody

NEW YORK, NY – On Friday, July 7, at approximately 11:57 a.m., the NYPD responded to a 911 call reporting an assault on a male individual in front of 538 West 138 Street in East Harlem.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered a 63-year-old male lying on the ground with head injuries. Emergency Medical Services arrived at the scene and transported the victim to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital.

On Tuesday, July 11, the victim, identified as Bernardo Gonzalez Perez, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The incident has been officially classified as a homicide, and the investigation is currently ongoing.

Following an ongoing investigation, law enforcement authorities made an arrest and filed charges on Friday, July 7, against Carlos Ramirez, a 48-year-old male who was found to be without a fixed address. Ramirez has been charged with felony assault in relation to this incident.
