PITTSBURGH, PA – A Westmoreland County woman, Shinazja Martinez-Hyde, 30, of West Newton, was arrested on Thursday afternoon by deputies after they discovered six children, all below the age of 4, unattended in a van.

The vehicle was parked in direct sunlight outside the Municipal Courts Building with its windows up and no air conditioning running.

Video evidence shows the children remained in the vehicle for a span of 15 minutes before deputies intervened.

They noticed the van’s interior was significantly hotter than the external environment.

City of Pittsburgh EMS was called in to assess the children’s health, who were then deemed to be in good condition.
