Father Arrested after Shooting Truck Driver Who Ran Over, Killed His Son

PERSON COUNTY, N.C. – In a recent series of events, a father has been detained for the fatal shooting of a truck driver who had earlier struck and killed his son.

The incidents occurred early Monday, prior to 6:30 a.m., on Dink Ashley Road close to Ed Brooks Road in Timberlake.

Chad Woods and his son were walking back to their residence after their vehicle ran out of fuel when a truck, operated by Jeffrey McKay, collided with Woods’ son, leading to his death.

In a fit of rage and grief, Chad Woods allegedly shot McKay and subsequently fled the scene in McKay’s truck, leaving both his son and McKay behind.

Woods was later apprehended and is now facing charges of second-degree murder and vehicle theft. His court appearance is set for Aug. 21.
