CLEVELAND, OH – Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley announced on Thursday the sentencing of Leander Bissell, 41, to life imprisonment.

Bissell will be eligible for parole after 16 years for the fatal hit-and-run of Cleveland Firefighter Johnny Tetrick in November 2022.

On the evening of November 19, 2022, around 8:14 p.m., a vehicle overturned on Interstate 90 East Bound near Martin Luther King Boulevard.

The Cleveland Division of Police, Cleveland Fire Department, and Bratenahl Police Department responded.

Amid the response, Bissell bypassed the scene, accelerating and striking Firefighter Tetrick. Bissell then fled without stopping. Tetrick was later declared deceased at a local hospital.
