HARRISBURG, PA – Attorney General Michelle Henry announced felony charges against Pennsylvania State Trooper Michael J. Brown, who was off-duty when he allegedly caused a deadly crash in Tioga County, resulting in the death of Christine Woodward.
According to the investigation, on the night of February 11, Brown was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee west on Route 6, headed to his barracks in Tioga County. In a reckless move, Brown attempted to pass a vehicle in front of him, crossing double yellow lines and subsequently striking an oncoming vehicle. The driver of that vehicle, Christine Woodward, was killed in the fiery collision.
Brown has been charged with a felony count of homicide by vehicle and five related summary traffic violations. He turned himself in on Monday, and bail has been set at $50,000 unsecured.
“This case involves the devastating loss of a mother and teacher, made even more tragic because it was entirely preventable,” Attorney General Henry stated in the announcement.
She further emphasized the importance of practicing patience and abiding by traffic laws to prevent such irreparable harm.
