Train Worker Beaten with Metal Pipe Inside Washington Heights Station

New York, NY – A 37-year-old male train operator was assaulted during a verbal dispute with an unknown passenger late Sunday night. The incident occurred while the operator was clearing a northbound ‘C’ train at the 168 Street-Washington Heights subway station.

The passenger escalated the disagreement by brandishing a box-cutter and a metal pipe, ultimately striking the operator in the face with the pipe. The assailant fled the scene, leaving the station in an unknown direction.

The victim suffered trauma to his mouth and lost multiple teeth due to the assault. Emergency medical services transported him to New York Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, where he is in stable condition.
