PISCATAWAY, NEW JERSEY – An alligator was captured by the Piscataway Township Police Department last night after a resident spotted the creature in the Possumtown neighborhood.

The sighting occurred just after 10 p.m. near 2nd Avenue. Officers from afternoon and night squads responded to the call, and Patrol Officer Ian Paglia successfully restrained the four-foot-long alligator.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Fish & Wildlife Division took custody of the animal, which will be placed in an area zoo or sanctuary, according to a Division Lieutenant.
