Prisoner Who Escaped Police Custody in Newark Captured

NEWARK, NJ – Makena Farrell, a 28-year-old who escaped police custody, was recaptured today after a brief foot pursuit.

Farrell was initially arrested on September 14 in the 900 block of Frelinghuysen Avenue for narcotics-related charges. She was being held at 480 Clinton Avenue when she escaped at approximately 2:23 p.m. today.

Police located and captured Farrell at Van Vechten Street. She now faces additional charges, including escape, eluding, obstruction of the administration of the law, and burglary. Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé confirmed the arrest and the pending charges.
