CRANFORD, NJ – A sinkhole that emerged on Boulevard in Kenilworth was attributed to a significant water main break, leading to emergency repair work and traffic detours that could last over 24 hours.
NJ American Water is currently overseeing the repair work on the damaged water main. The company has provided an initial estimate suggesting that the repairs could require more than 24 hours to complete.
This extended time frame will have a pronounced impact on commuting patterns today, particularly during the morning and afternoon rush hours.
Due to the emergency situation, detours have been established on several County roadways. These detours are expected to result in delays, especially around school drop-off and pick-up times. Schools affected include Cranford High School, Orange Avenue School, Bloomingdale Avenue School, Brookside Place School, and Union College.
Residents and commuters are advised to plan their journeys in advance and to exercise caution when driving in the affected areas. Particular caution is urged for those traveling in Northern Cranford and the western section of Kenilworth.
