Man Beaten in Toms River Restaurant Bathroom then Had Car Stolen

TOMS RIVER, NJ – A 25-year-old man was assaulted and his vehicle stolen early Sunday morning at a restaurant on Route 37 East, leading to the arrest of two males from Barnegat Township.

At approximately 2:06 AM on September 17, Toms River Police responded to a report of an injured male at the restaurant. The victim stated that he had been in the restroom washing his hands when two males attacked him, took his car keys, and drove off in his vehicle. He was later transported to Community Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Following an investigation, Michael Fischkelta, 18, and a 17-year-old male, both from Barnegat Township, were arrested. Fischkelta was charged with robbery, simple assault, and theft and was taken to Ocean County Jail. Juvenile complaints were approved for the 17-year-old, who was charged with robbery, aggravated assault, and theft before being processed and released. The charges were approved by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

The stolen vehicle was located by Barnegat Township Police in Barnegat Township. Toms River Police thanked the Barnegat Township Police Department, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office for their assistance in the investigation.
