CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – Zachary James Kruse, 38, and Cheyenne Nicole Mason, 34, were sentenced this week to federal prison terms for their roles in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
Kruse, from Cedar Rapids, pled guilty on May 4 to conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance. Mason, from Palo, entered her guilty plea on May 15 for the same charge. Evidence presented at the sentencing hearings revealed that law enforcement officers discovered 120.84 grams of methamphetamine in a motel room in Mount Vernon, Iowa, where the duo had been staying. Some of the substance was concealed in deodorant containers.
United States District Court Judge C.J. Williams sentenced Kruse to 240 months in prison, followed by a 5-year term of supervised release. Mason received a sentence of 59 months and 393 days, along with a 5-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system, and both are in the custody of the United States Marshal pending transportation to federal prison.
