Newport News Police Seek Suspect in Tragic August Pedestrian Crash

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Newport News Police Department is appealing to the public for any information regarding a tragic pedestrian crash that took place in late August.

On the evening of August 30, 2023, at about 9:02 p.m., officers from the NNPD arrived at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Freedom Way in response to a reported crash involving a pedestrian. The subsequent investigation established that Mr. Jose Dimas Brizuella Rosell was tragically hit by several vehicles as he attempted to cross Jefferson Avenue, resulting in his death at the location.

While one of the involved vehicles has been identified, authorities believe more vehicles were part of the incident. Eyewitnesses mentioned the presence of a tow truck and a dark-colored SUV near the crash site.
