JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit has leveled additional charges against the driver involved in a deadly car crash on Route 139 in Jersey City earlier this month.
Gabriel Melo, 22, of Newark, is now charged with Aggravated Manslaughter, Reckless Manslaughter, and Assault by Auto Resulting in Bodily Injury. Melo had been previously arrested on September 7, 2023, for Death by Auto in relation to the same incident.
The tragedy unfolded in the early hours of September 1 when Jersey City Police responded to reports of a crash near the Routes 1 and 9 North ramp on Route 139 West. Officers found a 2018 Audi overturned and severely damaged after colliding with a tractor trailer.
All three passengers of the Audi were rushed to Jersey City Medical Center. Sadly, Daniella Rosario, a 21-year-old from Bloomfield, was declared deceased shortly thereafter. The tractor trailer’s driver, a 53-year-old male, was unharmed and cooperated with authorities at the scene.
Melo remains in custody at the Hudson County Correctional Facility stemming from the initial charges related to the accident.
