NEW YORK, NY – In a statement, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez emphasized the United States’ obligation to uphold human rights in the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The Congresswoman took to social media to express her viewpoint, stating that the U.S. has a responsibility to both “support the safety of the Israeli people and prevent the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.”

AOC said the U.S. should only support Israel’s rights to defend itself against attacks from Hamas. She did not mention the attack on Israeli citizens that left over 1,000 dead, including several dozen American citizens.

“The United States’ responsibility is to human rights,” Ocasio-Cortez said. Her statement calls for a balanced approach to the conflict, urging the U.S. government to be an advocate for the safety and well-being of all parties involved.

The Congresswoman’s remarks come at a time when the Israeli-Palestinian conflict continues to generate international attention and concern. Various advocacy groups and international bodies have expressed differing views on how the U.S. should approach the issue, making it a topic of contentious debate within political circles.

“This is collective punishment and a violation of international law. We cannot starve nearly a million children to death over the horrific actions of Hamas, whose disregard for Israeli, Palestinian, and human life overall could not be more clear. We must draw a line,” she said.

The statement did not specify particular actions or policies that should be undertaken by the U.S. government. However, it does underscore the expectation that any American involvement should align with the nation’s commitment to human rights. This highlights the delicate balancing act the U.S. must navigate in its foreign policy, attempting to support its allies while also advocating for human rights.
