YOUNGSTOWN, OH – City police fatally shot 45-year-old Ricco Acevedo around 10:15 a.m. last Thursday during a response to a burglary call on the 4300 block of Helena Avenue.

Specific details surrounding the shooting are currently withheld by the police, and the identities of the involved officers have not been disclosed.

However, in alignment with department policy, the officers are now on administrative leave.

Following protocol, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) has taken over the investigation, working in parallel with the department’s Internal Affairs Division to ensure adherence to departmental policies.

Once the BCI concludes its investigation, findings will be submitted to the Mahoning County Prosecutor’s office for further action.
