New Jersey State Police and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office are requesting the public’s assistance in solving a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred on August 23, 2023. The incident took place at approximately 10:45 p.m. on the northbound shoulder of the truck lanes of the New Jersey Turnpike in East Brunswick Township, near milepost 78.8.
Based on the ongoing investigation, detectives have determined that a white ISUZU box truck, 25 feet long, was parked when it was hit by a 2018 or newer red Freightliner Cascadia. “Parts circled below were damaged and left at the scene,” said authorities, describing damage to the Freightliner’s passenger headlights, right bumper, fender, right side rearview mirror, and blind spot mirror.
The Freightliner fled the scene after the collision.
The ISUZU box truck sustained damage to the driver’s side door and mirror. The driver, a 78-year-old man from Whitestone, NY, was standing outside the truck at the time of the incident and suffered fatal injuries.
