DOVER, NJ – Wilfredo Cabrera-Masariegos, 34, has been sentenced to five years in New Jersey State Prison following his guilty plea to second-degree Manslaughter.

The sentence, imposed by the Honorable Ralph E. Amirata, J.S.C., mandates 85% parole ineligibility under the No Early Release Act. Cabrera-Masariegos has been in custody at the Morris County Correctional Facility since his arrest.

The conviction stems from events on July 25, 2023, in Dover.

Dover Police found the body of a man, later identified as Rene Rivera Hernandez, 47, on the railroad tracks near West Clinton Street in the early hours of July 26. Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the cause of death as blunt force injury to the head and classified it as a homicide.

Investigations revealed Cabrera-Masariegos and Hernandez were present at the scene under a highway bridge late on July 25. Cabrera-Masariegos hit Hernandez in the head with a rock before fleeing.
