MARDELA SPRINGS, MD – On November 2, a 13-year-old male student was found in possession of a 9mm handgun at Mardela Middle and High School located at 24940 Delmar Rd.

The incident was promptly addressed by school staff and the assigned School Resource Deputy after receiving information about the student having a handgun. The firearm, which was located in the student’s backpack, was not loaded, and no ammunition was found on the premises. The student was removed from the school environment and has been held pending a Juvenile Court appearance, as ordered by the Department of Juvenile Services.

Due to the age of the individual, the student’s name has not been released. The situation was resolved swiftly with minimal disruption, and school authorities have confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to students or staff.
