PHILADELPHIA, NY — The Route 11 bridge in the village of Philadelphia was rededicated on November 2 to honor Trooper Joel R. Davis, who lost his life in the line of duty in 2017.
Law enforcement agencies from across the state, including the New York State Police, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Park Police, Village of Philadelphia Police Department, and Watertown Police Department, joined elected officials and the family of Trooper Davis to commemorate his service and sacrifice.
During the ceremony, Assistant Deputy Superintendent Lt. Col. Darren S. Pitkin of the State Police highlighted Trooper Davis’s unwavering bravery and dedication to his community, particularly noting his actions during a domestic incident in Theresa that tragically took his life. Pitkin emphasized that Trooper Davis’s heroism was defined by his commitment to service throughout his life, not just in his final act.
State Assemblyman Scott A. Gray reflected on Davis’s exceptional character and dedication to duty, extolling him as a model of public safety professionalism and integrity. Gray also acknowledged the profound legacy left by Davis, mentioning his family who continues to honor his memory.
The ceremony underlined the community’s resolve to remember Trooper Davis not only for his final courageous deed but for the enduring impact of his service. The rededicated bridge stands as a lasting monument to his commitment to protecting others.
