MCLEAN, VA — An early Sunday incident has led to a U.S. Park Police officer being charged with involuntary manslaughter after the fatal shooting of another officer.

Fairfax County Police Department responded to an emergency call at an apartment located on the 1700 block of Old Meadow Road.

Upon arrival just before 12:30 a.m., they discovered the body of 22-year-old Jesse Brown Hernandez. Investigation revealed that 25-year-old Alexander Roy was attempting to dry fire a weapon, which he mistakenly believed was unloaded, resulting in the shooting.

Fairfax County Police Department has stated that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the incident. At the time of the incident, four individuals, including Hernandez and Roy, were present in the apartment, all of whom were acquainted with each other, with three being off-duty U.S. Park Police officers.

Roy is now detained at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond as the case proceeds. In a public communication, the U.S. Park Police acknowledged the involvement of its officers in the private residence incident.
