Orange County Bolsters Veteran Suicide Prevention Efforts

by Leo Canega

ORANGE COUNTY, NY – District Attorney David M. Hoovler and Carl LoFaro of the Hudson Valley VA Health Care System have recently announced the achievements of the Orange County Coalition to Prevent Veteran Suicide.

Since its formation in November 2021, the coalition has successfully engaged over 1,088 local businesses in distributing VA anti-suicide materials.

This initiative has disseminated more than 38,000 Veteran Crisis Line resources.

Additionally, 11,000 gun locks were distributed to increase veteran access to life-saving options.

The Coalition’s work, particularly relevant as Veteran’s Day approaches, aims to mitigate the higher suicide rates among veterans compared to non-veterans.
