SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y. – The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office announced the indictment of Darwin Barbacastillo, a 27-year-old resident of Brentwood, for a crime committed on Saturday, October 29. Barbacastillo faces charges for breaking into a Bay Shore home and sexually abusing a 4-year-old child inside.
The incident, which occurred around 8:00 AM, was captured on the home’s video surveillance system. It shows Barbacastillo entering through a back door, testing bedroom doors, and eventually entering the room where the victim and her 9-year-old sister were sleeping. The abuse woke the victim, after which Barbacastillo fled the scene.
The victim’s father, upon waking, found his daughters in the hallway and learned of the incident.
Recognizing Barbacastillo from the surveillance footage as an acquaintance, he alerted the police, leading to Barbacastillo’s arrest later that day.
On Wednesday, Barbacastillo was arraigned and faces several charges, including Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child. He remains in custody, with his next court appearance scheduled for December 19. Barbacastillo is represented by Ian Fitzgerald, Esq.
