PERTH AMBOY, NJ – A serious incident was averted on the Victory Bridge on December 10, thanks to the response of the Perth Amboy and Sayreville Police Departments. The incident began at 6:26 PM following a report of a vehicle accident on the bridge.

Sergeant Juan DeJesus of the Perth Amboy Police was first on the scene. He found a black Dodge Avenger near the bridge railing and was alerted by a witness about a woman attempting to jump from the bridge.

Body camera footage shows Sgt. DeJesus intervening, successfully preventing the woman from jumping despite her resistance.

Assistance soon arrived from Officers C. Mendes and K. Kryzanowski of the Sayreville Police Department, who helped secure the woman and bring her to safety. She received immediate care from EMS and was later transported to Hackensack Meridian Health for further treatment.

The investigation clarified that her vehicle was not involved in an accident but was instead used to facilitate her climb over the railing.
