Cumberland Water Department Advises Precautions Against Freezing Pipes

by Leo Canega

CUMBERLAND, MD – In response to the forecasted extreme cold temperatures, the City of Cumberland Water Department is advising residents and business owners to leave a small trickle of water running in their sinks.

This recommendation, though not mandatory, is aimed at preventing the freezing of water lines, a common issue primarily in residential and commercial service lines.

The responsibility for such incidents usually falls on the property owner or occupant.

The department suggests that this simple step could potentially avert the expensive damages that come from burst pipes and the subsequent need to thaw water lines.

Additionally, checking for and insulating any sources of air near service lines and meters is recommended to further reduce the risk of freezing pipes. This precautionary measure is offered as an optional but prudent approach to handling the severe weather conditions.
